Immerse yourself in the incredible, ancient landscape of the Kimberley – with its towering, red, rocky escarpments, majestic rivers, lush pandanus forests and some of Australia’s most remote natural wonders.
A highlight of the Oombi Track is a visit to the King George Falls, usually only accessible from the water, and out of reach to most travellers. Be one of a privileged few to explore its rock pools and breathtaking waterfalls from above! Only recently created, the bush track in is winding but beautiful, with an easy walk to the top of the falls. And the destination? Simply mindblowing!
The great river systems of the Kimberley are well represented on Oombi Track, including the Drysdale, Durack, Berkeley and Pentecost rivers. Grand in scale, these rivers carve through the landscape and provide a haven for a wide range of birds, fish and reptiles. Water levels vary depending on the season, revealing rocky and sandy riverbeds.
At many different sites there is the opportunity to dip into cool rock pools or freshwater creeks (dependent on conditions), to explore the environment around our camp sites, and experience this unique landscape on foot.
Here, the real Kimberley comes to life through all your senses – the vivid colours of pindan red contrasted against blue sky; the distinctive sounds of northern birdsong; the waxy perfume of spinifex…the Kimberley is an intensely multi-sensory experience. Let us take you there for a journey that will touch your soul.
